Doolin Caves, the second top attraction of County Clare
Doolin Cave (also known as Pol an Ionain) is a hidden gem, and it is located beneath a limestone valley. The valley is now blanketed by glacial rocks and clays and was initially formed during warmer periods before the last ice age.
As you journey from darkness into the light you have the opportunity to be in the presence of the longest free-hanging stalactite in the northern hemisphere and the only one like it in the world!
The stalactite stands at 7.3 metres (23 feet).
Descending underground through a world carved with water, you feel a sense of Moher Nature guiding you through the crisp air in the cave passages.
As you approach the main chamber, for a moment you are plunged into a world of darkness. When the light flicked back on, the magnificent stalactite can be seen, suspended like a chandelier from the cave ceiling.
Many guests of the hotel can hardly believe that it was formed from a single drop of water over thousands of years.
