Boat Cruise

The Spirit of Killaloe is an hour long cruise from Killaoe out into Lough Derg. It departs from quayside and is a fantastic way to get a perspective on how big the lake really is.

Lough Derg provides fantastic fishing opportunities, both fly fishing and coarse fishing. There are many different types of fish waiting to bite such as pike, trout, bream and perch. The area is also known for ‘dapping’ when the Mayfly are rising.

There are guided kayak trips on the river in Killaloe. The guided kayak tours explore areas of interest such as Brian Boru’s famous crossing at Kincora, to the Guinness Barges that used to bring ‘The Black Stuff’ down the waterways, to the historic Ardnacrusha Dam just down river. There’s also plenty of wildlife to experience too such as otters, eagles, leaping trout, dragonfly, mayfly and more.

A great place for a swim in the lake is Ballcuggeran beach at Twomilegate which is just outside Killaloe town. This beach has a blue flag which means it meets safety standards and during the summer months, there's a lifeguard on duty there.
